Hi there, I am after a cost estimation for the instalment of a phone line (needed for internet connection) at the unit I am currently renting. The address is *** Knutsford Ave, Kewdale WA 6105, and the complex has 2 levels (ground floor and 1st floor). My unit is on the 1st floor. The unit does have a wall socket for a data port already installed, but this is not suitable for connecting the modem, so I am wondering if it's possible to remove the data port cord and thread a phone line through? Or would it just make sense to get a whole separate wall port? I am able to supply photos of the MDF box or property floor plan if that will be of any help. Thank you for your time. Kind regards, Meg

The data port you're referring to is most likely connected back to the MDF, which supplies your NBN service. I’ve checked the NBN service type for your address and it’s FTTN.
In some cases, builders or electricians install an RJ45 port and run the cable back to the MDF. You can try plugging your modem into that port, wait around 10 minutes, and see if it syncs.
If it doesn’t, you might need MDF jumpering to get the service active. That involves connecting a short wire between the network side and your unit's side at the frame. It's also possible the socket in your unit is faulty. In that case, we’d likely replace it with an RJ11 socket, which is better suited for VDSL. The RJ11 fits more securely and gives better contact.
Give it a shot and let us know how you go.
Modem won’t work with your existing port? Likely you need MDF Jumpering or a line installed.
