Hi,
We have our NBN box in our study at the front of the house with our Telstra modem connected to it by an Ethernet cable. It is not in a central location in the house.
When I run a device connection test on the MyTelstra app it invariably shows some devices as having a poor signal strength. Then the next time I run the test, that device will show either an excellent or good signal strength, and another device which showed a good signal strength previously will show a poor signal strength.
Would moving the modem to a more central location in the house provide a more consistent signal strength across all connected devices? I assume there would need to be some cabling work required as the modem needs to be connected by an Ethernet cable to the NBN box.
Could you give me an idea whether this is possible.
Thanks
Garry

You've a few options in improving your signal for your wifi devices. Start of with number 1 below, then consider the other options.
1. Download a Network Analyzer app on the play store.
- This will show you all the competing networks in your local area that could be using the same channel or band. From here, you can try moving your Telstra router's band if it seems overlapping or congested and competing with other networks.
2. Depending on the size, and style of your home, you want to either move the current Telstra router to a more centralised point, this will likely assist with competing neighbouring networks, especially if its in a front room, it's likely interferring with your neighbours.
3. Install a dedicated ceiling mount access point like an Ubiquiti AP. These are dedicated wifi ap's allowing more customisation and stronger power than the standard Telstra router.
This involved running data cabling from the current router location through the ceiling, popping a hole in the gyprock and mounting the ubiquiti ap. This is a more permanent solution, it's out of the way and recommended should you own or propose living in the house for an extended period of time.
I hope this has been informational and provided some direction.
