Now there is a flashing blue and red light and its making a clicking noise is it broken? Should I call NBN? My NBN is not working.

Answer

Sounds like you have NBN FTTC installed

The clicking NBN box sound (called an NBN NCD) plugged into your home telephone point has its reasons.

Reason why the NBN box is making a clicking noise, is because the NCD (white nbn box in your home) is trying to power up your (invividual) port in the street. Because, the DPU (mini DSLAM) in the street actually backfed power from your NBN box and essentially powers up your port so you have an NBN connection.

The problem is, because of the multiple clicking noises, the continuity of the cabling is likely not reaching the NBN port in the street from inside your home.

Troubleshooting process:

1. Turn the NBN box off (the one clicking)
2. Reseat the telephone cable at the socket and in the NBN NCD
3. Turn it back on
4. Wait roughly 5 minutes (you may here a few click sounds, which is normal)
5. See if the lights on the NCD turn solid blue again.

If that fails, and you have a spare wall socket in a bedroom, or study you can repeat this method at an alternative socket in your place.

Reasons why your NBN box is making clicking sounds:

1. NBN NCD is faulty
2. The NBN line is faulty somewhere in your home, back to the street (i.e. no continuity)
3. Faulty NBN DPU port in the NBN Pit outside your home.

A good idea is to engage a telephone. NBN technician to check continuity between the NBN box in your home and the street connection point..

After the technicians visit, he will determine if the DPU at the street is indeed faulty and you'll need to engage in your NBN internet Provider to log a fault with NBN and replace the DPU outside.

Hope this has been informational, and it's always a good idea to have your internal wiring checked every 5 - 10 years at your home.
